Oprah Winfrey has pledge to donate $1 million to the Hispanic Federation’s UNIDOS Disaster Relief & Recovery Program and $1 Million to Flamboyan Arts Fund.
Oprah is making sure the people of Puerto Rico do not feel forgotten. The former talk show host has always been known for her generous acts of kindness and she’s at it again. This time giving a much needed gift of $2 million to help Puerto Rico rebuild from Hurricane Maria that destroyed the island in 2017 and killed nearly 3,000 people.
The Hispanic Federation and the Flamboyan Arts Fund revealed that Oprah has donated $2 million ($1 million for each organization) for revitalization efforts in Puerto Rico. Oprah and her bestie Gayle King flew to Puerto Rico earlier this year for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s production of Hamilton. Miranda reprised the role of Alexander Hamilton for 23 performances on the island to raise awareness about the devastating aftermath of the Hurricane—as well as the lack of government support its received.

“I was so moved by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s commitment to bring Hamilton to Puerto Rico and support the community that served him growing up that I wanted to join in the revitalization efforts of an island so rich in culture, beauty, and heritage,” Oprah said in a statement.
She continued, “The needs of Puerto Rico and our fellow American citizens following the tragic hurricanes are still very real, and the work that has already been done by the Hispanic Federation, Flamboyan Arts Fund and other organizations on and off the island is long from over.”
The Flamboyan Arts Funds is dedicated to maintaining Puerto Rico’s rich culture, heritage, arts and creative development. While the helps coordinate food drives and distributes millions of pounds of food and water for people on the island.
Oprah joins a list of celebrities who have helped Puerto including Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Bethenny Frankel and Alex Rodriguez.
