Voluntourist Review: Rabat, Morocco Hotels–Riad Kalaa and Euphoriad

When planning a Moroccan holiday, many travelers often think of Marrakech or Fez for an exotic adventure, but Rabat–the country’s capital–should not be missed. The charming and centuries-old city overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, and offers everything from cultural activities to exciting excursions to lazy beach days. Not only is there a lot to do, but there are fantastic places to stay like the Riad Kalaa and Euphoriad.

Riad Kalaa

If you’re looking to be immersed in beautiful Moorish architecture and Moroccan decor, then you must visit the Riad Kalaa. The 11-room boutique hotel is located in the medina, and caters to Western guests with modern conveniences like free WiFi, hair dryers, bottled water, secured access and exceptional customer service.

Riad Kalaa

The two-story building has rooms on the bottom level, where you’re within a few feet from the outdoor restaurant. It’s a sociable, lively and fun atmosphere. If you’re looking for a more private and intimate experience, then ask for one of the rooms on the top floor where you’ll be close to the amazing rooftop pool and enjoy spectacular views of the medina.

Each room is refreshingly unique and has its own personality that’s rich in the country’s history and culture. You’ll feel like you’re in North Africa while staying at the Raid Kalaa, and it’s an unforgettable time.

That said, a few of the rooms don’t have doors to the restroom by design. They are intentionally open and spacious, so when booking, clarify if that’s something you’re not comfortable with. However, there is still a bit of sequestration since there are two floors to some of the rooms so keep that in mind.

Complimentary breakfast, which consists of delicious, freshly made Moroccan pastries, yogurt, juice, coffee and mint tea, (on request), is served every morning. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner, where traditional Moroccan cuisines are offered, but make sure to have a reservation. Not only does the restaurant get busy, but they only buy enough produce for the guests whom they expect to have. What a clever way to not waste food!

The Riad Kalaa also has a great Hammam spa. It’s only one room, so again, you need a reservation, but you will feel so relaxed and pampered after a visit that you’ll want to try out as many of the numerous treatments offered as possible.

The hotel is breathtaking, and it’s the perfect escape for a business trip or romantic getaway.

The Euphoriad is equally stunning and luxurious, but completely different. It has a more modern look and feel, with an infusion of Moroccan embellishment and culture. It’s comfortable, yet sophisticated, and reflects the the architect and decorator, Chafiq Kabbaj’s, traditional way of living in Rabat.

Euphoriad Hotel

What I love about Morocco is that you never know what’s behind a door until you go inside, and you will be taken aback by the Euphoriad. You’ll feel majestic, and like you’re in a palace with its tall columns, colorful mosaic water fountains and gorgeous Moroccan lamps.

It’s obvious how much planning and expense went into every detail and aspect of the Euphoriad. The result is a high-tech, contemporary, magnificent property that maintains the charm and allure of the neighborhood, which is just a few winding streets away in the medina from the Raid Kalaa.

Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted by the attentive staff and escorted to your room, which is sweetly named after a flower.

There is also a complimentary breakfast similar to the Raid Kalaa’s, and their restaurant operates in the same manner, so make a reservation in advance.

Amenities include a Hammam spa, which is beautifully made out of carved marble that overlooks the medina, an extravagant rooftop Jacuzzi and swimming pool, fine dining and free Wi-Fi.

And while there are doors on the bathrooms, they are glass and completely see through so be aware.

Each hotel offers airport transfers at an additional cost, which is favorable for those who want the accessibility of effortless transportation. If you choose to find your own way to the hotels, it’s important you let them know what time you will be arriving so one of the employees can meet you and guide you to the facility. As mentioned, it is in the medina, so you can’t be dropped off at the front door.

The location of Riad Kalaa and Euphoriad is ideal. It’s a 20 minute short drive from the Sale, Rabat airport and within walking distance to one of the city’s main attractions–the Kasbah of the Oudayas.

There are many options for lodging in Rabat, but the wonderful customer service, gorgeous settings and modern comforts make the Riad Kalaa and Euphoriad perfect choices.
