COUNTRY INFORMATION
Located in Central America, Costa Rica is considered to be the most stable and democratic out of all the Central American countries. They have been able to remain peaceful, they have incredibly high literacy rates, a strong educational system, they are dedicated to protecting human rights, they care deeply about the environment, and so much more. All of this considered, it is no surprise that Costa Rica has a thriving tourism industry.   Despite the positive attributes, Costa Rica does have massive problems with sex trafficking and forced labor, especially child sex trafficking. The country is working to enforce stricter laws and to help the victims, but they are relatively slow in doing so.   If you’ve volunteered in Costa Rica, we’d love to hear about your experience. Please let us know which organization you signed up with, what your trip was like, and if you’d recommend the program to others.
